Is an outside-vented range hood mandatory or can I use a recirculating range hood? Our safety officer says: Unless the installation instructions of the new range specifically require an exhaust hood vented to the outdoors, there is no other code requirement under the Gas Safety Regulation which requires a hood for a residential range, although it is recommended. Also, the BC Building Code (which does not fall under the jurisdiction of Technical Safety BC) may have specific ventilation requirements. Please consult your local building official for confirmation of the requirements within your jurisdiction.
